About よていだ

予定(よてい) is an expression that functions very similarly to つもりだ 'to intend to do'. The primary difference being that 予定(よてい) is a 'plan', rather than an 'intention'. Due to this, 予定(よてい) is used far more frequently for things that you have formal plans to do (like meeting a friend for lunch).
To use 予定(よてい), just attach it to the non-past form of a verb, or to a noun (after inserting ).
  • 今夜(こんや)先輩(せんぱい)たち()()予定(よてい)だ。
    I plan to go drink with my senpai tonight.
  • (やす)来週(らいしゅう)から予定(よてい)
    My break is planned to start from next week.
Caution
If or です is not added after 予定(よてい), it will imply that 予定(よてい) is simply modifying the verb/noun that comes before it, rather than being a standalone 'plan'. This is similar to the difference between saying something like 'I have plans to eat with a friend' (natural), vs 'I have an eating with a friend plan' (unnatural).
  • 明日(あした)友達(ともだち)ステーキ()予定(よてい)
    I have plans to eat a steak with a friend tomorrow. (Natural Japanese)
  • 明日(あした)友達(ともだち)ステーキ()予定(よてい)
    I have an 'eating a steak with a friend' plan tomorrow. (Unnatural Japanese)

              I have a question, sorry if it sounds silly.

              The sentence below requires casual form:
              なるべく早く日本語にほんごを喋れるようになる _______

              However, it only accepts 予定だ. I assumed that with 予定 being a noun you could omit だ casually, is this not the case with 予定?

              @zyoeru Hey! It is not quite the same as つもり which is a dependent noun. Without the copula だ or です, 予定 is simply a noun modified by the verb or noun that comes before it.

              行くよてい - “A plan to go” (lit. “a go plan”)
              行くよていだ - “(I) plan to go,” “A plan to go is in place/exists,” or “There is a plan to go.” - There is intent/purpose rather than just a kind of plan.

              Therefore, for 予定 to indicate a presence of intention or plan, it should be attached to the copula だ/です. Cheers!
